Where uLaw is stronger today

If these matter most to you, uLaw may be the better fit for now.

  • Law Society of Ontario compliance focus. uLaw has years of production use with Ontario practitioners and is known for its LSO trust-compliance focus. TodoLegal keeps the same By-Law 9 records but is new.
  • Phone support. uLaw's phone support is highly rated by reviewers on public listings. We're a newer, smaller team.
  • CPD webinars. uLaw runs CPD webinars. Our workshops and meetups are community events, not a CPD program.
  • Years in market. uLaw is established with Ontario practitioners; TodoLegal is new.

Switch in an afternoon.

Export from uLaw, upload the CSV or Excel files, check the preview, run. Trust balances carry forward per client, outstanding invoices become opening receivables, and unbilled time is ready to bill.

  1. 01
    Export

Contacts, matters, unbilled time, trust balances and open invoices — as CSV or Excel.

  2. 02
    Upload & map

We recognize common Clio, LEAP, uLaw and PCLaw column names and report layouts. Adjust anything.

  3. 03
    Preview

Every row is checked first: missing clients, bad amounts, unknown matters.

  4. 04
    Run

Safe to re-run — rows already imported are skipped, never duplicated.

Questions about switching

Is there a contract?

No. Every paid plan is month to month and you can cancel any time from Plan & billing. You can export your data whether you stay or leave.

Where is my data stored?

In Canada. TodoLegal is Canadian-hosted, so your client files and trust records are stored here — useful when clients or your insurer ask about data residency.

Can I bring my trust balances over?

Yes. The importer records each client's trust balance as a balance carried forward on your conversion date — not as a new deposit — so your client trust listing in TodoLegal starts from the same numbers as your last listing in the old system. You then reconcile your first month against the bank statement as usual.

I'm on uLaw. What does moving involve?

Export your client list, matter list, client trust listing, trial balance and unpaid invoices from uLaw as of one month end, in Excel or CSV. The importer reads them as they are, checks that the trust listing matches the trust bank balance on your trial balance, and carries everything forward. Migration help is free, and we do your first month's trust reconciliation with you.

What about invoices clients still owe?

Outstanding invoices come in as opening receivables, not new revenue, so your income isn't counted twice. HST on them was already accounted for in your previous system.

Is there really a free plan?

Yes. Starter is free for one practitioner with up to 10 active matters, trust records, invoicing, a website and the community. Upgrade to Pro when you outgrow it.

Do you replace my accountant?

No. TodoLegal keeps your trust records, invoices and general ledger in order, but your accountant still prepares your tax returns and year-end, and you remain responsible for your Law Society filings. Most accountants find the reports easier to work with.

How long does switching take?

Most small practices import in an afternoon: export files from Clio, LEAP, uLaw or PCLaw, upload them, check the column mapping and the preview, and run. Re-running is safe — nothing imported twice.

Sources and method

Clio and LEAP prices are third-party or buyer-reported estimates in US dollars, converted at the rate shown in the calculator. uLaw prices are in Canadian dollars, based on public listings. All last checked October 2026. Clio publishes only its EasyStart price; LEAP quotes pricing individually; the uLaw listing doesn't publish how its price changes with more users. Vendors change plans often — confirm current pricing and features with each vendor. TodoLegal prices are our published monthly prices in Canadian dollars, before tax.
